From your Etsy download to your live website.
Follow each step to personalize your Template Darlin website, publish it on Netlify, choose a cleaner web address, and make sure it works for real visitors. No coding required.
Two ZIP files. Different jobs.
Only publish the second one. Uploading the original Etsy ZIP will not publish your finished site.
Easy 5 Steps To Get Your Website Live
Use this as your roadmap. The complete click-by-click directions are just below.
Get the customer ZIP and Buyer Guide from your Etsy purchase.
Open the included Setup Wizard in a browser on your computer.
Add your information, then save your setup JSON backup.
Click “Download My Website” and extract the new ZIP.
Drop the website folder into Netlify and test the live address.
Before you begin
Set aside the files and accounts you will use.
- Use a computer and a modern browser for the easiest ZIP, wizard, and folder-upload workflow.
- Have access to the Etsy purchase or guest receipt, the included Buyer Installation Guide, and an email address for your Netlify account.
- Gather your business or organization name, contact information, photos, social links, and any outside service links that your particular website offers.
- Your product's Buyer Guide tells you which wizard fields and optional features apply to that product. This page covers the shared publishing path.
Download your purchase from Etsy
Get both customer files before opening the wizard.
- Open Etsy in a browser.
Sign in at Etsy Purchases with the account used for your order. Digital downloads are not available in the Etsy app; use a computer or mobile browser.
- Find your Template Darlin order.
Select Download Files. Etsy opens the downloads page for the files attached to your order. If payment is still processing, the button may be unavailable until it clears.
- Save both files.
Download the customer package ZIP and the Buyer Installation Guide PDF. Their exact names vary by product; the PDF should identify the package and wizard by name. Keep both together in a folder you can find, such as Downloads.
- If you checked out as a guest:
Use the download link in your Etsy receipt email. Check spam or promotions if it is missing.
Etsy help: How to download a digital item.
Extract the Etsy customer ZIP
Open the files in an ordinary folder on your computer.
- Locate the ZIP you bought.
This is the original customer package from Etsy, not the website ZIP that the wizard will make later.
- Unzip or extract it.
On Windows, right-click and choose Extract All. On a Mac, double-click the ZIP. On a Chromebook, open the Files app, right-click the ZIP, and choose Extract all. If your system uses different wording, choose its extract/unzip option.
- Open the extracted folder.
Look for the file whose name starts with
01_OPEN_MEand ends withSETUP_WIZARD.html. The exact name differs among website products. Leave the other package files with it, and read the included Buyer Guide for any product-specific notes.
Chromebook help: Unzip files in the Files app.
Personalize your site in the Setup Wizard
The wizard works in your browser from the extracted customer folder.
- Double-click the Setup Wizard HTML file.
If your computer asks how to open it, choose a modern browser. Keep the extracted package files in place while you work.
- Enter your real information.
Start with the required fields, then review the pages, photos, branding, contact details, buttons, links, and feature switches that your particular product includes. Replace any example text you do not want visitors to see.
- Choose contact behavior where offered.
Some products open the visitor's email app, some offer a Netlify-compatible form, and some can use an outside form service or link. Choose only an option your product actually provides and follow its Buyer Guide. The optional Netlify Forms directions below apply only if you selected a Netlify form.
- Click “Save My Setup.”
Keep the downloaded
.jsonsettings backup somewhere safe. You can later use “Load My Setup” to restore your choices and make updates. - Click “Download My Website.”
The wizard downloads a new, personalized website ZIP. This is the file you will prepare for publishing.
Prepare the generated website folder
Netlify needs the complete website, with its home page at the top level.
Etsy customer ZIP
Includes the Setup Wizard, Buyer Guide references, and product materials. Do not deploy it.
Wizard-generated website ZIP
Extract this new ZIP. Deploy the folder whose top level contains index.html.
- Find the new ZIP from “Download My Website.”
If there are several similar files in Downloads, check the time of the latest wizard download.
- Extract the new ZIP into a normal folder.
Open the extracted folder and look for
index.htmldirectly inside. You should also see the other HTML pages and supporting CSS, JavaScript, configuration, and/orassetsfiles supplied by your product. - Choose the folder containing
index.html.If you open a folder and see only another folder, open that inner folder. The folder you drag to Netlify must contain
index.htmlat its top level. Keep all the website files together.
Publish on Netlify
These instructions use Netlify's manual drag-and-drop publishing.
- Create or sign in to a Netlify account.
Visit app.netlify.com. Sign in to the account and team you want to use to manage this website later.
- Open Netlify Drop.
While signed in, visit app.netlify.com/drop. You can also find a drag-and-drop area on your team's Projects page.
- Drag the entire generated website folder into the drop area.
Use the extracted folder containing
index.html. Do not drag onlyindex.html, onlyassets, the Buyer Guide PDF, or the original Etsy package ZIP. This is a ready-built site; no Git connection or build command is needed. - Wait for the deployment to finish.
Netlify creates a project and shows a public address ending in
.netlify.app. Open that address from your project overview and save it somewhere you can find again. - Open the live site.
Confirm your home page is visible. If you see a 404 page, return to step 4 and check that
index.htmlwas at the top of the folder you uploaded.
Official help: Netlify Drop quickstart.
Change your Netlify-assigned link
Pick a more memorable .netlify.app address before sharing it widely.
- Open the project you just published.
Go to its Project Overview page in your Netlify dashboard.
- Select “Customize.”
Choose Manage project name and cover image.
- Enter an available project name and save.
For example, a project name like
your-business-nameproduceshttps://your-business-name.netlify.appif that name is available. Follow any availability or naming prompts shown by Netlify. - Open and copy the new address.
Changing the project name changes its default
.netlify.applink. Update any links or QR codes where you already shared the old one.
Official help: Customize your Netlify project name.
Test your live website
Use the actual public address, not a local preview of the wizard.
Open the live link in a new browser tab. Go through each item that exists on your particular site:
Check in a private/incognito tab if you suspect your browser is showing an old version. An email button that opens your email app has launched correctly, but you still need to send a message and verify it arrives.
Which Netlify extras apply to you?
Make these choices based on your website's actual features and the address you want to use.
Your site has no submission form, its button opens an email app, or your product uses an outside form provider.
Your specific website includes a Netlify-compatible form and you chose that delivery option in its Setup Wizard.
You are happy to use your .netlify.app address for now.
You own or purchase a separate custom domain and want visitors to use it.
These are independent choices. A site can use neither, either one, or both. A custom domain is not needed for Netlify Forms, and Netlify Forms is not needed for a custom domain.
Set up Forms inside Netlify
The Forms area receives submissions from a compatible form already included in your generated website. Turning it on does not add a contact form to a product that does not have one.
- Confirm your site's form choice.
In the Template Darlin Setup Wizard and its Buyer Guide, confirm that you selected the Netlify form option and generated/published that version of the site. If the product instead uses an email button, an outside form link, or another provider, skip these Netlify steps and test that method.
- Check form detection in the same Netlify project.
In your project dashboard, choose Forms. If you see Enable form detection, select it. If you disabled detection previously, find it under Forms → Form detection or Forms → Usage and configuration → Form detection and turn it back on. If it is already enabled, leave it enabled.
- Deploy after enabling detection or changing the website.
Netlify scans the next deployment after detection is enabled. In this existing project, find Production deploys or the manual drop area on Deploys and drag in the complete generated website folder. If detection was already enabled when you first published this version, check Active forms first; you do not need an extra upload solely for that setting. If you changed wizard settings, generate and extract a fresh website ZIP before deploying its folder.
- Check that your form appears.
After the relevant deployment succeeds, return to Forms and look under Active forms. If no form is listed, confirm the generated product actually contains a Netlify-compatible form and that detection was enabled before its latest deploy.
- Add an email notification if you want inbox alerts.
In Forms → Submission notifications, choose Add notification, select an email notification, enter the address that should receive alerts, and choose the appropriate form or all forms. Save the notification. Submissions can still be viewed in the Forms dashboard; configure alerts when you want email notice.
- Send a real test from the public website.
Complete the live form with test information and submit it. Confirm the confirmation/success behavior, find the entry in Forms → Active forms → your form (verified submissions are shown by default), and check the notification inbox if configured. Also inspect spam submissions if the test is missing.
Set up Domains inside Netlify
Your .netlify.app link works without a purchased domain. Use these directions only if you want a separate address such as yourbusiness.com. You must own the domain; domain registration is a separate service.
- Finish and test the Netlify link first.
Confirm the site works at its
.netlify.appaddress so you can distinguish website problems from domain or DNS problems. - Open Domain management.
In the same Netlify project, go to Domain management, select Add domain, then Add a domain you already own. Enter the domain, choose Verify, and confirm Add domain. Netlify may ask for proof of ownership when needed.
- Choose where to manage DNS.
Follow one of the two methods below. DNS is the connection between your registered domain and the Netlify website.
Method A · Keep DNS at your current provider
- In Netlify, open Domain management → Production domains and choose Pending DNS verification next to the new domain. Read the exact record instructions for your domain.
- Sign in where your domain's DNS records are managed. Add or update the website record(s) as Netlify specifies. A
wwwsubdomain commonly uses a CNAME pointing to your project's.netlify.appname; the root domain may use a different record. Use the values Netlify shows for your domain. - Keep unrelated records for your email and other services, including MX and relevant TXT records. Remove or change only conflicting website records after checking what they serve.
- Save, then return to Netlify to watch for DNS verification. When you add a root or
wwwdomain, Netlify adds its matching counterpart too, so follow the instructions for both and test both addresses.
Method B · Use Netlify DNS
- After adding your domain to the project, select Options → Set up Netlify DNS next to it in Domain management and follow Netlify's prompts.
- Before changing name servers, copy existing DNS records you still need—especially email MX and related TXT records—from your current provider into the new Netlify DNS zone. Then note the name servers Netlify assigned to your domain.
- At your domain registrar, replace the domain's name servers with the exact ones assigned by Netlify. Save the change.
- Check the domain's status in Netlify and verify your website and any existing email or other domain services still work.
- Allow DNS and HTTPS to finish.
Changes may take time to spread. Netlify normally attempts to provision an HTTPS certificate for a connected custom domain. Check Domain management → HTTPS if it remains pending. Do not widely share the custom domain until it opens securely.
- Test the final address.
Open the custom domain with
https://, visit several pages, try both root andwwwif applicable, and confirm the primary address/redirect behaves as you intend. Recheck any contact forms and linked outside services.
How to update your website later
- Open the original Setup Wizard.
Use Load My Setup to import your most recent saved
.jsonsettings file. - Make your changes and save again.
Click Save My Setup and keep the latest JSON backup.
- Create and extract a fresh website ZIP.
Click Download My Website, unzip the new file, and confirm the folder again contains
index.htmlat its top level. - Open your existing Netlify project.
Find Production deploys or the manual drop area on Deploys, then drag in the updated website folder. Do not create another project for a routine update.
- Wait, then test.
Open your same live address and check the changed pages, links, and any forms. Your renamed Netlify address and connected custom domain remain attached to that existing project.
If something isn't working
I see a 404 or “Page not found.”
Open the folder you deployed. index.html must be immediately inside it. If another folder is in the way, deploy that inner folder instead. Confirm the deployment succeeded before opening the public link.
My photos or styling are missing.
Deploy the entire generated website folder, including its assets, CSS, JavaScript, and configuration files. Do not upload only the home page.
The site shows old or example information.
Check your wizard entries and feature choices, save, generate a new website ZIP, extract it, and deploy that folder to the correct existing project. Refresh or open a private browser tab after the new production deploy finishes.
My form does not show up in Netlify.
First confirm your product and wizard choice actually produce a Netlify-compatible form. Then enable form detection and redeploy the website folder to the same project. Check Active forms and test submissions from the live site. See the product Buyer Guide and Netlify's Forms troubleshooting link above.
My custom domain does not open securely yet.
Check Domain management → Production domains for pending verification and Domain management → HTTPS for certificate status. Compare DNS records or name servers with Netlify's instructions for your domain, allow propagation, and consult the linked HTTPS guide.
I cannot find my Etsy files.
Use a browser, not the Etsy app. Check Your account → Purchases → Download Files, or use the guest receipt email. If payment is processing, wait for Etsy to make the files available. The Buyer Guide PDF and package ZIP are separate downloads.
